Mick Stump                                                          drawings and paintings

I studied in Portsmouth in the 1970’s and was fortunate enough to have Miles Richmond as my tutor. He had just returned from Spain where he had worked for many years with David Bomberg. At this time my love of Renaissance Art was enhanced after winning a travel award sponsored by IBM. I went to Florence to study Renaissance drawings first hand. These influences formed the core of my approach towards drawing.

Over the years I have found that working on series of drawings of a subject allows me to absorb it thoroughly. My usual way of working is to produce drawings on location in sketchbooks and then work from these studies in my studio at a later date.

I have exhibited in several venues, including with the New English Art Club at Mall Galleries. Also at Huddersfield Art Gallery, Chelmsford Museum and Art Gallery, Skylark Studios, Woodbine Contemporary Arts, the Affordable Art Fair; Battersea, South Holland Arts Centre; Spalding, Freuds; Covent Garden, Freuds; Oxford.
